Week 4 Rankings

Class 6A

We got a new #2 team and it’s a team over on the Westside.  Two teams are making their debut in the top 10 this week which means two other teams dropped out.  Bixby and Sapulpa are into the top 10 while Owasso and Norman North drop out.

1)  Jenks Trojans-(3-0)-LW: #1-Beat Owasso 45-28
The Trojans finally got some production from their offense in a nice win over Owasso.  Jenks however will lose production going forward when running back Brett Tye went down with an AC tear in his shoulder.
2)  Lawton Wolverines-(3-0)-LW: #3-Beat Altus 52-0
The competition wasn’t there on Friday but the Wolverines are a dangerous Westside team that’s rolling into district play.  They open district play against Edmond Memorial who just got a big 30 point win over 5A power Deer Creek.
3)  Union Redskins-(1-2)-LW: #4-Beat Broken Arrow 38-21
This is a huge win for the Redskins over Broken Arrow last Friday, their 29th win over the Tigers in 30 meetings.  The Redskins avoid going 0-3 and they take on Owasso this week.  Owasso has won 2 in a row over Union and snapped Union’s 90+ game district win streak in 2011.
4)  Broken Arrow Tigers-(2-1)-LW: #2-Lost to Union 38-21
The Tigers jumped out to a 14 point lead but gave up 31 unanswered points in a disappointing 38-21 loss.  You have to start to wonder if no matter the talent on the field, if BA can get over the mental hurdle against Union.  Good bounce back opportunity this week against Muskogee.
5)  Westmoore Jaguars-(3-0)-LW: #6-Beat Norman North 45-31
Westmoore keeps on rolling into district play after beating Southmoore and Norman North in back to back weeks.  The Jags now head east to the 918 to take on another top 10 team in 3-0 Bixby.
6)  Edmond Santa Fe Wolves-(2-1)-LW: #5-Beat Edmond North 38-31 in 2OT
I’m not sold on the Wolves yet.  I’m sure they’ll be there in November but this game against Edmond North is almost an eye opener.  We’ll know a lot more about Edmond Santa Fe when they go on the road to take on Southmoore.
7)  Midwest City Bombers-(3-0)-LW: #7-Beat Del City 16-8
I said it on the Roundup on Saturday morning, I said it in the Week 3 Recap, and I’ll say it here as well.  Bomber Magic is back.  Held an explosive Del City offense to under 100 yards of total offense.  Open up district play against Norman North on Friday after already matching their win total from last year.
8)  Southmoore Sabercats-(2-1)-LW: #10-Beat Moore 58-14
The Sabercats bounced back with a blowout win over rival Moore.  The competition gets a lot stiffer this week as Southmoore opens up district play with Edmond Santa Fe coming to town.
9)  Bixby Spartans-(3-0)-LW: UR-Beat Springdale (AR) 45-38
Bixby got a huge comeback win over a NW Arkansas power in Springdale.  The Spartans now face a Westside team that’s threat in Westmoore.  Bixby can make a huge statement and take a step forward towards the playoffs if they pull the win over the Jaguars.
10)  Sapulpa Chieftains-(3-0)-LW: UR-Beat Sand Springs 49-32
The Chieftains finally got some tough competition but the result was the same.  This team can put up some points which is going to make the district race for the 4 playoff spots very entertaining.

Class 5A

I’ll tell you what.  This is without a doubt the toughest class to rank.  The top 3 teams are pretty solid, in what order you put them is still up for debate.  From 4-10 just put the 7 teams in a hat, draw them out, and you got your rankings.  That’s not what we did here but you get the picture.

1)  Carl Albert Titans-(2-1)-LW: #1-Beat Duncan 28-6
The Titans roll once again closing out the non district slate.  Now the real test begins.  Carl Albert enters district play in 5A-2, the Titans finished 4th in the district last season and went on to win the state title.
2)  McAlester Buffaloes-(2-1)-LW: #2-Beat Claremore 59-35
Who needs defense?  The Buffaloes have played a very tough schedule in the first 3 weeks and it’s shown as they’ve given up 38 points a game.  However it hasn’t mattered at all with an offense that is averaging 50 points a contest.
3)  Guthrie Blue Jays-(3-0)-LW: #3-Beat Enid 36-16
Crazy to think but after 3 weeks Guthrie is 5A’s lone unbeaten remaining.  Not crazy that Guthrie is 3-0, crazy that they’re the only one left.  The Blue Jays haven’t been tested yet and they won’t be over the next two weeks with games against Guymon and Western Heights.
4)  Lawton MacArthur Highlanders-(2-1)-LW: #8-Beat Lawton Ike 21-9
Nice win for the Highlanders over 6A’s Lawton Eisenhower.  Lawton Mac has a huge district opener this week against Del City.  I don’t think this is a stretch, this game could decide the district title and it’s only week 4.
5)  Del City Eagles-(1-2)-LW: #5-Lost to Midwest City 16-8
Held to under 100 yards of total offense and the offense was shut out as the touchdown came from the special teams.  Still a serious 5A threat and now focus on a top 5 match up with Lawton MacArthur at home.
6)  Edmond Deer Creek Antlers-(2-1)-LW: #4-Lost to Edmond Memorial 40-10
Not quite sure how good Edmond Memorial will end up being but the loss and how it happened is disappointing.  The Antlers will need to erase that game from their mind fast as they open up district play against the defending state champions in Carl Albert.
7)  Bishop Kelley Comets-(2-1)-LW: #6-Lost to Coweta 48-42
Bishop Kelley was off to a nice 2-0 start after starting last season 0-2.  They lost a heartbreaker to Coweta on Friday night on the very last play of the game.  A 24 yard hail mary from Coweta downed the Comets.  They’ll bounce back this week against Hale.
8)  Claremore Zebras-(2-1)-LW: #7-Lost to McAlester 59-35
Not too many times that you can score 35 points and get blown out by 24 but that was the situation with Claremore in their game with McAlester.  Claremore will open up district play against Collinsville and those two might end up being the top 2 teams in 5A-2.
9)  Bishop McGuinness Irish-(1-2)-LW: #9-Beat Weatherford 21-14
The Irish finally got a win and while it was only a 7 point victory over Weatherford, it’s reason to celebrate.  Bishop McGuinness had to get some kind of momentum before heading into their district.  Can add to that momentum with a road game at El Reno.
10)  Shawnee Wolves-(2-1)-LW: #10-Beat Ponca City 35-0
Shawnee bounced back from the 20 point loss to Deer Creek by blasting Ponca City.  Not a big deal, Ponca City has struggled for a long time now.  Shawnee will get the opportunity to avenge a 77-37 loss to Memorial when they host the Chargers this week.

Class 4A

Fort Gibson dropped a bit from 4 to 7 after the loss to Catoosa.  Glenpool enters the rankings as Broken Bow drops out following their blowout loss to Metro Christian.

1)  Clinton Red Tornadoes-(2-1)-LW: #1-Beat Southeast 61-16
The Red Tornadoes are ready to roll.  After their week 1 loss to Lawton MacArthur Clinton has done nothing but impressed.  It looks like we’re just counting down the weeks to when Clinton squares off with Anadarko in week 6.
2)  Wagoner Bulldogs-(3-0)-LW: #2-Beat Grove 35-14
Wagoner finished off their tour of district 5A-4 beating down Grove.  Wagoner is off to a 3-0 start and now set their eyes on 4A and the district opener against Catoosa.  If Evitt can run, the Bulldogs can keep it rolling.
3)  Anadarko Warriors-(3-0)-LW: #3-Beat Perry 47-7
No offense to Chickasha, Centennial and Perry, but they stink.  The Warriors haven’t been tested so far and that’s why they’ve outscored opponents at the tune of 182-21.  Like I mentioned with Clinton, they’re on a collision course for one another.
4)  Ada Cougars-(2-1)-LW: #5-Beat Durant 36-35
Okay, keep up with me.  Ada lost to Ardmore in week 1.  Durant beat Ardmore in week 2.  Ada beat Durant in week 3.  What?  I know.  I have no idea how good this Ada team is and we might not find out until week 7 when they travel to Glenpool.
5)  Douglass Trojans-(2-1)-LW: #6-Beat Star Spencer 52-8
Nobody expected this game to be close and it wasn’t.  The Trojans roll into district play and similar to Ada, won’t be tested over the next two weeks.  In week 6 they’ll host Glenpool before a season finale meeting with Ada on the road.
6)  Catoosa Indians-(2-1)-LW: #7-Beat Fort Gibson 27-26
Catoosa does it again.  Fort Gibson’s 42 yard field goal fell short and Catoosa got their 2nd straight win after the disappointing shutout loss to Pryor.  Catoosa has a huge game to open up district play this Friday as they head to Wagoner.
7)  Cascia Hall Commandoes-(3-0)-LW: #8-Beat Lighthouse Christian (MO) 40-26
The Commandoes took care of business wrapping up non district play against an out of state opponent.  Cascia Hall now rolls into district play undefeated and nobody has beaten Cascia in district play since Claremore Sequoyah did it on September 23rd, 2005.
8)  Fort Gibson Tigers-(2-1)-LW: #4-Lost to Catoosa 27-26
The Tigers have been playing close ball games in the first two weeks and it finally caught up with them.  They fell to Catoosa on Friday and now go into district play at 2-1.  They open district play against a surprising undefeated Rogers team.
9)  McLain Titans-(2-1)-LW: #8-Lost to Central 14-12
This one is going to sting for a while.  The Titans dropped a 2 point decision to their TPS rival in the final minute as the Braves scored the go ahead touchdown with 32 seconds left.  McLain goes into district play determined to making the playoffs after missing last year despite a 7-3 record.
10)  Glenpool Warriors-(2-1)-LW: UR-Beat Sperry 30-13
The Warriors bounced back from their loss to Cascia Hall by beating up on 3A’s Sperry.  The Warriors are hungry to get back into the playoffs and now head into district 4A-2 to get it done.  Glenpool faces McLoud this week with a clash with Douglass waiting for them in week 6.

Class 3A

Not much change in 3A, Heritage Hall took a dive after the blowout loss to Davis but they hang on to a spot at 10.

1)  Kingfisher Yellowjackets-(3-0)-LW: #1-Beat Hennessey 31-0
The Yellowjackets continue to roll.  They get a big shutout win over 2A top 10 team Hennessey on Friday.  Kingfisher will open up district play against Heritage Hall who has struggled over the last two weeks.
2)  Seminole Chieftains-(3-0)-LW: #2-Beat McLoud 40-13
The Chieftains just keep on taking opponents down.  No surprise with the last victory for one of 3A’s elite.  Seminole’s district opener is Perkins and then they come back to the Tulsa area to take on Claremore Sequoyah in week 5.
3)  Blanchard Lions-(3-0)-LW: #3-Beat Newcastle 28-7
The defending 3A champ haven’t shown many weaknesses in the first 3 weeks.  The district Blanchard is in just isn’t that good.  They might go 8-0 into a week 10 clash with Tuttle that should decide the district champion and Blanchard might go into the playoffs undefeated.
4)  Metro Christian Patriots-(3-0)-LW: #5-Beat Broken Bow 50-2
Talk about a beat down.  The Patriots just handled Broken Bow down in SE Oklahoma in a way that nobody saw coming.  Metro Christian continues their 4 straight weeks on the road as they play one more non district game against Pawhuska.
5)  Victory Christian Conquerors-(3-0)-LW: #4-Beat Tahlequah Sequoyah 62-24
No need for heroics from Keats Calhoon in this beat down.  The Conquerors got it done on the ground against Tahlequah Sequoyah. Victory now enters district play and it would be disappointing if they didn’t finish 10-0.
6)  Cushing Tigers-(3-0)-LW: #7-Beat Cleveland 35-0
The Tigers are just another one of those really good 3A teams.  This playoff race is going to be very entertaining to see who lifts the gold ball in December.  Cushing strolled thru non district play but the opponents weren’t as difficult as some of the other top 10 teams.
7)  Plainview Indians-(3-0)-LW: #8-Beat Valliant 47-6
The Indians might be for real.  I’m not going off the win over Valliant, I’m going off what they’ve done so far.  This is a very competitive class and Plainview has the chance to run the table in the regular season because their district isn’t that tough.
8)  Tuttle Tigers-(2-1)-LW: #9-Beat Elgin 48-14
The Tigers have bounced back nicely from their opening week loss to Plainview.  The Tigers look to continue their success into district play.  Tuttle is in Blanchard’s district and it isn’t that tough.  It’ll come down to that week 10 meeting.
9)  Berryhill Chieftains-(2-1)-LW: #10-Beat Kellyville 55-6
Berryhill heads into a district that has had some stiff competition over the last several seasons.  Verdigris is down this season but Berryhill’s opponent this week will jump up and bite you if you’re not careful.  The Chieftains open district play on the road at Dewey.
10)  Heritage Hall Chargers-(1-2)-LW: #6-Lost to Davis 54-23
I said the Chargers were hanging on to a spot in the top 10.  More like clinging.  This might be the Heritage Hall’s last week in the top 10 for a while as they open up district play against #1 ranked Kingfisher.

Class 2A

Not many changes this week.  OCS and Hennessey have swapped at the 4 and 5 spots.  Nowata and Adair swapped at the 6 and 7 spots.

1)  Millwood Falcons-(3-0)-LW: #1-Beat Adair 34-7
Seriously, can anyone stop this team?  We were saying that last year about Vian but right now Millwood looks unstoppable.  The Falcons snapped Adair’s 23 game regular season winning streak.
2)  Davis Wolves-(3-0)-LW: #2-Beat Heritage Hall 54-23
Speaking of unstoppable.  Davis isn’t too shabby.  The Wolves ran up and down the field on Heritage Hall on their way to a 31 point win.  Davis won’t be tested the rest of the regular season as they steamroll into district 2A-4.
3)  Vian Wolverines-(3-0)-LW: #3-Beat Muldrow 25-13
It appears that the only threat in Vian’s district will be Hugo.  Vian has jumped out to a 3-0 start and looks to continue their roll into district 2A-6.  Vian opens up district play against Pocola, a team they shutout 62-0 last season.
4)  OCS Saints-(2-1)-LW: #5-Beat Jones 33-19
Wow, that season opening loss to Metro Christian looks better and better every week.  The defending 2A champs took care of business against Jones.  OCS has a showdown with Millwood coming up in week 6.
5)  Hennessey Eagles-(2-1)-LW: #4-Lost to Kingfisher 31-0
Not the worst loss in the world.  The Eagles lost to a team in Kingfisher that could end up being the 3A state champ.  The next time we see Hennessey in a close game might be all the way in week 10 against Alva.
6)  Nowata Ironmen-(3-0)-LW: #7-Beat Newkirk 27-6
I don’t know how Nowata would match up with some of the top 5 teams in 2A but this is a Nowata team that should be taken seriously.  They’ve done nothing but win in the first 3 weeks.  A showdown with Adair is a little over a week away.
7)  Adair Warriors-(2-1)-LW: #6-Lost to Millwood 34-7
You have to tip your cap to Adair.  They wanted some competition and they got some competition.  They ran into the buzz saw that is Millwood and their 23 game regular season winning streak is no more.  The Warriors will try to start a new streak this week against Caney Valley.
8)  Alva Goldbugs-(2-1)-LW: #8-Beat Hobart 59-52
A lot of defense being played in that game right?  The Goldbugs won a shootout with Hobart and have now won 2 in a row as they head into district play.  Alva takes on Chisholm on the road this week.
9)  Hugo Buffaloes-(3-0)-LW: #9-Beat Idabel 42-6
I’m still not sure how good this Hugo team is but I’ll keep them in the top 10 until they lose.  That might not happen over the next 3 weeks but a week 7 visit to Vian will be something to pay attention to.
10)  Stroud Tigers-(2-1)-LW: #10-Beat Prague 30-0
Similar to Hugo, I’m still not sold on Stroud.  They seem like the favorite in 2A-5 but they could be challenged by Meeker and Okemah.  We’ll find out more about the Tigers in week 6 when they travel to Meeker.
